The State Archaeology is attached to the Language & Culture Department H.P. to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Conducting archaeological explorations and excavations;
  2. Maintenance, conservation and preservation of protected monuments and archaeological sites and remains of state importance;
  3. Chemical preservation of monuments and antiquarian remains;
  4. Architectural survey of monuments;
  5. Epigraphical and numismatic studies;
  6. Training to its officials in Archaeology;
  7. Bringing out archaeological publications;
  8. Horticulture operation in and around ancient monuments and sites.
  9. Implementation and regulation of – “The Himachal Pradesh Ancient and Historical Monuments, Archaeological Site & Remains Act-1976” & “The Himachal Pradesh Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Site & Remains Rules-1985”.
  10. To implement “The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972” through Registering Office (A centrally sponsored Scheme).
