The State Archaeology is attached to the Language & Culture Department H.P. to achieve the following objectives:
- Conducting archaeological explorations and excavations;
- Maintenance, conservation and preservation of protected monuments and archaeological sites and remains of state importance;
- Chemical preservation of monuments and antiquarian remains;
- Architectural survey of monuments;
- Epigraphical and numismatic studies;
- Training to its officials in Archaeology;
- Bringing out archaeological publications;
- Horticulture operation in and around ancient monuments and sites.
- Implementation and regulation of – “The Himachal Pradesh Ancient and Historical Monuments, Archaeological Site & Remains Act-1976” & “The Himachal Pradesh Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Site & Remains Rules-1985”.
- To implement “The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972” through Registering Office (A centrally sponsored Scheme).
